Our 2022 Section 48 Inspection
Our latest Section 48 inspection in January 2022 graded St Winefride’s as an ‘Outstanding’ school. The inspectors’ judgements were as follow:
- Overall effectiveness of this Catholic school: OUTSTANDING
- Catholic Life: OUTSTANDING
- Religious Education: OUTSTANDING
- Collective Worship: OUTSTANDING
The inspector wrote:
“Pupils thrive in the caring and nurturing environment where every member of the community is valued and respected as a unique gift from God.”
“Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the school and fully appreciate the family atmosphere reporting that the pastoral care provided ‘is amazing’ and that the well-being of children and families is of paramount importance”
“Pupils enjoy coming to school and report that there is nothing they would like to change about the school; ‘It is perfect as it is,’ one child reported to the inspector.”
“The leadership team’s drive to celebrate the church’s mission in education is truly alive and embedded in the actions of St Winefride’s children.”
“The quality of Religious Education is outstanding.”
“Prayer and worship are central to the life of all at St Winefride’s.”
“(The children’s) behaviour in and around school is exemplary, older pupils act as excellent role models to the younger children.”
“The Headteacher, her staff and School Governors are outstanding in promoting the provision for Catholic Worship.”

Our 2009 Ofsted Inspection
Our latest Ofsted inspection in June 2009 graded St. Winefride’s as an ‘Outstanding’ school. The inspectors’ judgements were as follow:
- How effective are leadership and management in raising achievement and supporting all learners: OUTSTANDING
- How effective are teaching and learning in meeting the full range of learners’ needs: OUTSTANDING
- How good is the overall personal development and well-being of the learners: OUTSTANDING
- How well learners make progress, taking account of any significant variations between groups of learners: OUTSTANDING
- The behaviour of learners: OUTSTANDING
The inspectors wrote:
“Pupils are learning at a rapid pace, because of the outstanding quality of the teaching and the curriculum.”
“Pupils’ personal development is outstanding, as is their spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding.”
“An outstanding Headteacher and skilled team of senior managers provide excellent clarity in guiding and developing the school.”
“Pupils make excellent progress and attain above average standards by Year 6 from low starting points in the Nursery.”
“The school is a very effective organisation, and its strong focus on Catholic principles and shared commitment to raise standards demonstrate that it has excellent capacity to improve further.”
“Staff work hard to ensure that, in this diverse school community, all pupils have equal access to learning.”
The inspectors said that St. Winefride’s is an ‘Outstanding’ school because: Pupils make excellent progress and attain above average standards by Year 6 from low starting points in the Nursery and the children’s outstanding attitudes to learning which are reflected in excellent attendance.
