MISSION STATEMENT

“We celebrate God's love for everyone.

We enjoy learning and growing together, in our caring and welcoming family.”

Jesus said,
"Let the children come to me."

Religious Education (RE)

At St Winefride’s we follow the ‘Come and See’ programme for Foundation and Key Stages 1 and 2, which was published in 2012, by Matthew James Publishing and is endorsed by the Diocese of Brentwood. In this programme the catechism of the Catholic Church addresses the search for meaning in life. Look out for the parent newsletter that is sent out once a term as this details each topic studied in each year group, with ideas for how parents may support their children at home. You may also view a yearly overview of the RE curriculum by clicking on the following link. Check out how else St Winefride’s spreads the good News of Jesus throughout the school.

Every class has their own altar, which the children help to keep clean and tidy, the cloths are changed to reflect the time of the church year. This altar has a purple cloth which denotes Easter. You can also see the school prayer to the left of the altar.

It is displayed in both English and Spanish.

The Gospel is central to our lives at St Winefride’s and the scripture is displayed every week along with a prayer for the children to read.

This prayer is included in the newsletter every week.

Our yearly Cafod fundraising events during Lent are one of the highlights of the school year. This year we raised over £5,000 while having lots of fun!

Events included a balloon race, pyjama days, dance-athons, doughnut bobbing, spelling contests and lots more.

Our Mini Vinnies carry out lots of good work for both charity and the school. They have made, packaged and sold cookies, run stalls and have been a marvellous asset to the school. They recently attended a Mini Vinnies Festival at St Michael’s to share their ideas with other Catholic schools.

They are also taking part in a debating competition with the other Catholic primary schools in Newham using questions from the RE curriculum as their subject. To see the type of questions the children are debating click here.
